Hot Tub Troubleshooting Guide:

Quick Fixes for Common Issues

In This Post We Explore:

Relaxing in your hot tub is one of the best ways to unwind in the Hamptons, but what do you do when unexpected issues arise?

Don’t let these problems dampen your spirits. Most hot tub issues have simple solutions, and we’re here to guide you through them.

Here are ten common hot tub problems and how to fix them, so you can get back to enjoying your serene spa experience.

1. Cloudy Hot Tub Water

Cloudiness can result from organic matter, dirty filters, or chemical imbalances. First, test and adjust your pH and alkalinity levels. If the water remains cloudy, shock it with a non-chlorine oxidizer and clean your filters. If all else fails, consider draining and refilling your hot tub.

2. Algae Blooms

Algae in your hot tub can be due to high pH levels or inadequate sanitation. Test and adjust your pH if necessary. If the pH is balanced, shock your water with a sanitizer to eliminate the algae.

3. Hot Tub Foam

Foamy water is often caused by a buildup of organic materials or high chemical levels. Shock the water with a non-chlorine oxidizer or use a foam reducer. Regularly using an enzyme reducer treatment can help prevent foam in the future.

4. Irritated Eyes or Skin

If you experience irritation, it could be due to unbalanced water. Shock your water and check your pH and alkaline levels, adjusting as needed to restore comfort.

5. Weak or Non-Working Jets

Jets not working as expected could be due to airlocks or dirty filters. Try opening all jets and running them on high to release trapped air. Clean or replace your filters if they are dirty.

6. Noisy Pump

A squealing pump might need replacement, while a louder-than-usual pump could indicate a water flow issue. Check for clogs and ensure your water level is sufficient.

7. Weak Water Flow

Changes in water flow can be caused by dirty filters, low water levels, or jet blockages. Clean your filters, top up the water, and check your jets for any obstructions.

8. Hot Tub Not Heating Properly

A cold hot tub might be due to an airlock, dirty filters, circulation system clogs, or heater issues. Clean your filters, check for clogs, and ensure there’s no airlock. If the problem persists, inspect your heater for signs of damage.

9. Error Codes on the Display Panel

If unfamiliar error codes appear, consult your hot tub manual or contact our team for assistance. Common codes include FLO (water pressure issue), DRY (low water level), COOL (low water temperature), and OH (high water temperature).

10. Tripped GFCI Breaker

A tripped GFCI breaker indicates an electrical problem. Test your hot tub’s electrical components one by one to identify the culprit. The faulty part or its wiring may need repair or replacement.
